Student Profile: Sonja Anderson

Lucky for Sonja, her mom is a free spirit and even lets her paint a forest on the wall in their foyer.

Sonja has an affinity for color…and SHEEP… which she painted on her bedroom door this summer.

Sonja Anderson is a Peacebuilding major and Art minor at Eastern Mennonite. Sonja is interested in all sorts of 2D media; painting, charcoal, sketching, spray paint, pastel. Two of her favorite artists are Salvador Dali for his bizarre compositions and Gustav Klimt, especially “The Kiss.”

Sonja’s favorite subject is trees. She did an entire studio series on them in high school. When she learned about Lisa Schirch’s exhibit about trees and peacebuilding, Sonja was more than

intrigued.

Since Sonja’s major heavily depends on communication, she sees the value in studying art because it can be such a universal means of communication.

On her sketches, Sonja likes to include thoughts, quotes, and song lyrics.

“Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.” -John Muir

Sonja always has supplies ready for whenever inspiration strikes.

Her picture hangs over the sink of her kitchenette just as the sun hangs above Sonja’s trees.

“When the power of love over comes the love of power, the world will know peace.” -Jimi Hendrix
